We begin our new season with a Bulb and seed sale at our September meeting, so please remember that any spare bulbs that you find when re-potting would be most welcome, likewise seeds of alpines too. This event helps raise funds for the group, as well as offering the opportunity to obtain some interesting new bulbs and/or seeds!
Our December meeting is a social event, with a few short slide shows from members, usually an entertaining quiz, and a cheese and wine supper.
At the March meeting we have a competitive show for the David Benton Rose Bowl, and also a photographic competition for the Margaret Hedges Trophy.
There will of course be a Plant Sale, this year at our April meeting (please propagate a few nice plants for that?). This is also an important contributor to our funds.
There will be some gardens open too during the year, yet to be arranged, and likewise a coach trip. News of these here once I have details!
A few other local events which may be tempting are included here too!
Saturday 10th March 2018 – Dorset Show
The Dorset group are staging their local show in the Allendale Centre, Wimborne BH21 1AS on March 10th 2018, open to the public from 11.30 until 3 pm. There will be a great display of plants, as well as sales tables, and there is always a friendly welcome. Tale Valley and Parham Bungalow Nurseries will be attending too. Lunch and snacks are available on site in the small cafeteria.
There are usually several of us from Hampshire at this event, and a few even contribute to the show (and occasionally win prizes!) It is well worth the trip to Wimborne!
Details of this show, and the Wimborne Show, can be found on this link on the “Events” page.
Saturday May 19th 2018 – Wimborne Alpine Garden Show (Rocky Flower Show)
The Wimborne Show is a joint event with the Dorset and Hampshire AGS groups, and a superb day out! We do hope that many of our members will come and enjoy the show, possibly exhibit some plants, and almost certainly buy some new ones – there will be some excellent nurseries there! Of course, help is always needed too, if you’d like to volunteer, and it’s fun too!
The show is at Queen Elizabeth School, Pamphill, Wimborne, Dorset, BH21 4DT.
Doors open early for plant sale, the main show opening at about 11.30, after judging.
The fine venue, sumptuous food, wonderful plants and friendly atmosphere have made it a ‘Must See’ event for many far flung alpine enthusiasts.
There will also be a photographic competition. For further detail please contact David Hughes on firstname.lastname@example.org
Nurseries attending will be announced nearer to the time.
